So, what makes Karratha a place that one may want to relocate to?
Being one of the fastest growing and developing cities in Western Australia, there always seems to be something happening in the area. Whether that be the film festival touring the city, community programs, theatre shows, youth programs, and plenty more.
The history
The shipwrecks that can be seen and explored along the coast are a part of the city’s rich history. The city was officially established in 1968. However, much before that, the land was lived and worked on by the indigenous people. In-fact, the city has many cultural sites and monuments that showcase many moments from the history of the city and people.
Things to do in Karratha
Located near the Dampier Archipelago – a group of 42 islands, the area first and foremost, is known for its beauty, crystal-clear waters. Added to that are breathtaking beaches and a diverse marine life. The city is also known as the home to the stunning Millstream – Chichester national park. The park is the largest national park in Western Australia. So, the beaches, the parks, and plenty of sightseeing options, combined with the rich culture and development in the city, Karratha is not only a great working opportunity but an extremely unique place to live at.
Population, diversity and religion
In 2023 approximately 30,000 people are living in the city. One is able to find a rich diversity when it comes to community and families. 65% of the population were born in Australia while other noticeable cultures in the city include people from New Zealand, South Africa, the Philippines and a strong indigenous culture. Karratha also has a mosque and Muslim community that also share a Facebook page for any holidays, events, and information for the Muslim community living on the city
Schools and education
Karratha has four public primary schools, one independent public school and one private primary school. When it comes to high school, the city has one public and one private school (Karratha Senior High School and St Luke’s College). The city also has a TAFE centre with remote university facilities.
The weather in Karratha
When it comes to weather, the city is hot all year around. It tends to rain (although in small amounts) at the end of summer and start of winter, while August – December are known as the very dry months. In summer, the temperatures can reach up to 48dg celcius. Thankfully, the breathtaking beaches are right in the backyard.
The local hospital in Karratha
In recent years, the local hospital underwent a 173 million dollar build and renovation. The Karratha health campus is today know as a hospital that offers a variety of services in the 40 bed, advanced hospital, offering the hospital patients the highest of care.

Karratha has grown tremendously over the years and is a popular spot for tourists who are traveling the area. As a result, the town has a police station and all the resources required to keep a crime free (as much as possible) town.
