Just over a four hours drive from Perth or one hour flight, Geraldton is not only a popular spot for tourism and those visiting the city, it also offers a great lifestyle for those living there.
Geraldton was given its name in 1985, after Charles Fitzgerald, the 4th Governor of Western Australia. But the history of the city dates back thousands of years when it was home to the Yamatji and Amangu Aboriginal people. The history of the city is showcased in many of the museums and visitor centres in the city and surrounding areas.
Today, Geraldton is home to more than 40,000 residents. One of the most fascinating facts about the city is that one can find people from many corners of the world, including South Africa, England, New Zealand, India, the Philippines, and more. The summers are hot and the winters, while fairly short, are wet, yet not too cold, with the city averaging around 20dg in the winter months. The colder months are typically between May – September with October until April being the warmer and hotter months.
Geraldton has two hospitals; Geraldton Regional Hospital (GRH) – a public hospital offering 55 beds and offers accident and emergency, medical, surgical, paediatrics, maternity, intensive nursing, a chemotherapy unit, day surgery and a renal dialysis unit. And, St John of God Private Hospital – a 60-bed hospital with medical, surgical, acute care, maternity and palliative care.
