Rockhampton or ‘The Beef Capital of Australia’ as many refer to it (we will get to that in a moment) is described by many as one of the most unique spots, offering a great balance of things to see, things to do, and a place that is close to many other destination, giving residents the opportunity to travel and visits cities and attraction near by.  Located in the heart of Queensland, the city today is home to more than 80 thousand people, making it a vibrant city that caters to a variety of cultures. 

The history

 

While the original inhabitants of the Rockhampton area were the Darumbal Aboriginal people, the city was officially established in 1853, quickly becoming a destination for gold miners during the gold rush. Not long after, it also became a major trading post for cattle, the reason why when waking around the city today, you will likely notice bull statues in key locations. Not only that, but you will likely notice that the local food also carries that history connection.

Things to do in Rockhampton

 

The first thing you are likely to notice about the city is the Victorian architecture and while the buildings are a unique site, you will fast realise all the other things there are to see and do. For those who enjoy the outdoors and adventures, the city has some great caves to visit and explore, giving visitors the opportunity to not only enjoy a unique experience, but learn about the indigenous significance of the place. The city also has some beautiful botanic gardens if you are looking to explore the nature and a popular zoo. If it’s more the indoor activities you are looking for, the city has museums, art galleries, The Dream time Cultural Centre, and many more options for a great day. We mentioned Rockhampton was home to over 80,000 people. This includes people and families from various cultures and backgrounds, including New Zealand, India, South Africa, England, and more. To match the multicultural population, one can easily find just about any cuisine in the city and surroundings.

The first local school was open is 1859. Today, Rockhampton has many options when it comes to primary schools, high schools,(public and private), childcare, and universities.
