Visa Sponsors for General Practitioners

General Practitioner is on the Skills Shortage list. The usual pathway for an Overseas Trained Medical Graduate (IMG) to commence work as a General Practitioner on a Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482). This will also allow a spouse and children to live, work and attend school in Australia.

  • At Doctor Connect we work with a range of practices who are eligible to be visa sponsors
  • Most of these are registered to sponsor visas with experience in these processes
  • On completion of fellowship and when holding specialist registration, a GP is likely to be eligible for permanent residency (PR)
  • Although age can be a factor in some PR applications, there are pathways available for GPs over 45 years of age.

If our job listing is for a DPA location, then an IMG will be eligible to join that practice. In the complex and changeable environment of immigration, it can be useful to engage with a visa expert. We can recommend an Immigration Solicitor with experience working with immigration matters for doctors and their families.
